I’m all for taking a couple of weeks in January to collect myself mentally and emotionally before I begin working towards resolutions. After 2020, it seems pretty understandable. Whenever you do decide to get it together here are some ideas for how you can start your year off on the right. 10 things to start your new year right.

Clean and clear your apartment. And…take out the trash. This is the first one for a reason. Leave the mess behind in 2020!
When cleaning, look at it as a meditative, and even spiritual, practice. Your environment is a direct reflection of your mental state. By cleaning and decluttering you are making space for new things, new opportunities, and even new people to enter your life. Many feng shui experts advise those who want to attract a love match to make space in their bedroom for one. That means making space in their closets and drawers and making both sides of the bed accessible.
In this process, focus also on the releasing of items that have run their course with you. Items such as old/torn clothes, broken furniture, books, paper clutter need to be either thrown out or donated. Don’t forget to clean your fridge too! As you begin the year on a cleaner and less cluttered note, decide to establish a rule or two in which you will commit to making your newly pleasant environment sustainable throughout the year.

Open your windows and clear the air. This can be done before, during, or after cleaning your home. Open all of the windows you feel comfortable within your home to allow the air and with it energy to flow in and out of your home. Some additional ideas for enhancing airflow, include:
Using a diffuser to create an aromatherapeutic environment in your room. There are so many types these days. Mechanical, non-mechanical, ones that evaporate.
Burn some palo santo. You can also use sage. With these incense sticks, go around your home, especially the corners to dispel old, worn-out, and possibly negative energies.

Pick a song of the year. Choose a song that will be your guiding light for the year. When you are feeling sad or down, lost or confused, this will be the song to remind you that all is well and to keep moving forward. You can choose a song that brings you a lot of energy or is indicative of the vibe you want to incorporate throughout the year.

Take a spiritual bath. This is like clearing a space of negative vibes, but it’s your body instead. Start the year with some self-care and personal hygiene maintenance so you start the year clean in feeling right. For a more spiritual approach, prepare your tub with the bathwater and add some Epsom salt, sea salt, pink Himalayan salt (if you wish), Florida water, and even essential oils if you’d like. Soak in this water while doing a light meditation. If you only have a shower you can fill a bucket of water and the ingredients listed and pour them over your body in the shower.

Dress up. Put on some clothes that make you feel good! Pretend your home is your office (and maybe it is) and put on your boss get-up. This is the outside-in approach to feeling good that can affect your mood. Besides, if you’re dressed in pj’s all the time you might feel more tempted to spend most of your hours in bed. If hours in bed is exactly what you need, then consider another suggestion on the list.

Make yourself your favorite meal. A meal should be an experience that brings you joy. Make one of your day’s highlights preparing your favorite meal. Let the anticipation energize you and put you in the right vibes!

Create a vision board. Creating a vision board is a brilliant and fun way to get your mind right and aligned to your dreams! A vision board is a visual representation of what you want to attract into your life. Often, it is a tool used for manifestation. Cut out some photos that represent what you want, where you want to go, and how you want to feel, and glue them onto a poster board. If you want to learn how to make a cool alternative version of the vision board read my post, Forget vision boards: How to create a vision corner.
